Roadmap

Follow the next milestones for Andrea Reader, the DRM-free reader built for comics, manga, EPUB, PDF, and large personal libraries.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Milestone 01

Public beta

Start with a public beta because Andrea Reader is a serious project. Test it with real users to ensure it works and provides real value.

  • Launch a public TestFlight beta first

2

Milestone 02

Listen, fix, repeat

This milestone is about building a tight feedback loop and iterating fast.

  • Collect and triage community feedback from early users
  • Iterate continuously — things you do not like get addressed, not ignored

Milestone 03

Reading features expansion

Expand the reader with deeper controls and more customization.

  • Improve EPUB rendering performance and speed
  • Text selection with color highlighting, save quotes and notes with annotations
  • Zoom controls and further reading customization

Current

Milestone 05

A rock-solid 1.0

An early update that hardens 1.0 into a rock-solid, bug-free base — so everything planned afterwards can ship fast.

  • A first wave of bug fixes to make 1.0 rock-solid, plus the internal groundwork so new features ship quickly and cleanly from here on
  • A cleaner reading menu — highlight actions and more move into a single native menu instead of scattered icons, keeping the reading UI tidy
  • In-book search to find any word or passage inside a book
  • Favorite pages and bookmarks, with a brand-new Bookmarks widget — one of the most requested features
  • Craft your own chapters: build a custom index with your own chapters and parts for any book
  • Above all, make the core app run flawlessly — performance tuning and refinements for large collections, polishing anything that looks or behaves off
5
6

Milestone 06

Notes, reinvented

A full overhaul of how you capture and revisit notes.

  • Tap any highlight or note to edit it in place — recolor it, remove it, or refine what you already captured
  • Three annotation types from one selection: highlight (actual), highlight + note, and highlight + quote
  • Create sticky notes you can drag anywhere on the page, recolor them, and add as many as you want per page
  • Create native stickers while reading comics and manga, and use a crop selection to capture any area of the page and turn that screenshot into a note or quote, as the comic and manga equivalent of highlighting
  • Export notes, stickers and quotes to Obsidian, Notion, Word and more

New Feature

Andrea Next

A premium-only space for experimental features before they are fully ready, so you can preview what is coming next.

Milestone 07

More remote servers & streaming

Connect to more clouds and read straight from the server.

  • New providers — Mega, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive and more, alongside today's OPDS, WebDAV, SMB and SFTP
  • Stream books directly from an OPDS server, without downloading them first
  • A dedicated icon and view to manage all your servers in one place
7
8

Milestone 08

History & storage, rebuilt

A rebuilt reading history, plus a per-collection storage manager.

  • A new reading history from scratch — what you read, how many pages and when, per book, saga, collection or section
  • Global stats with interactive charts and monthly progress: books, ebooks, manga and comics finished, plus total reading time
  • A dedicated Storage view per collection, with tools to find and remove duplicate files across your whole file system

New Feature

Reading Memory

A simple home for your highlights, quotes and notes.

  • Show a random quote or note from your books when you open the app
  • Choose what appears first from a simple settings view
  • Browse a dedicated quotes and notes view

Milestone 09

Reading settings

Better controls for the way you read.

  • More control over taps to go forward or back while reading
  • Custom touch padding from the left, right, top or bottom edges of the screen
  • Better zoom controls, including double-tap to zoom in and out
  • Press-and-hold zoom options and finer reading sensitivity controls
9
10

Milestone 10

A library that knows itself

Let Andrea Reader fill in the rest, automatically.

  • A dedicated in-app search view to find books directly from Andrea Reader, including ISBN lookup and other metadata
  • Smart Data Gathering — auto-fetch covers, titles, descriptions and metadata from public sources for a book, a section or a whole collection in one tap
  • Alternative Covers — search the web for other covers and pick your favorite, right inside the app

Milestone 11

Immersive reading

Make every page — comic panel or paragraph — feel effortless.

  • Guided panel-by-panel view, image upscaling, right-to-left and double-page modes for comics and manga
  • Crop mode to trim page borders and fill the screen
  • Paper-style backgrounds, plus a built-in dictionary and Wikipedia lookup for EPUB
  • Read-aloud (text-to-speech) for hands-free, accessible reading
11
Start of Android Development

iOS remains the main focus, and Android development will grow alongside it.

12

Milestone 12

More formats & real-time tools

Open more of what you already own, and tidy it up as you read.

  • More formats — FB2, AZW3, TXT, Markdown and Word
  • Real-time page cleanup for comics and manga — remove white spines and borders, delete pages
  • Real-time translation of images and pages, saved as a new page (experimental)

Milestone 13

Track your reading

Keep your progress in sync with the communities you already use.

  • Sync progress to AniList and MyAnimeList (manga) and Goodreads and StoryGraph (books)
  • Reading goals, streaks and yearly challenges
  • Richer stats across books, series and collections
13
14

Milestone 14

Sync, backup & accessibility

Your library, safe and available everywhere — and usable by everyone.

  • Full sync between iPhone and iPad through iCloud — library, progress, notes and settings
  • Complete library backup and restore, independent of sync
  • A full accessibility pass — VoiceOver, Dynamic Type and reduce-motion support

Milestone 15

At home on iOS
