Andrea Reader is built around a single principle: your reading life is yours. The app is local-first and does not require an Andrea account, does not use any online Andrea Reader service, does not include advertising, and does not track your reading behavior. This policy explains what stays on your device, when the app may connect to services you choose, and what Apple or website infrastructure may process independently.
Andrea Reader is designed to keep your library on your device. Imported files, collections, reading progress, highlights, annotations, bookmarks, favorites, reading statistics, thumbnails, preferences, and reader settings are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad unless you choose to use Apple services, a document provider, sharing/export tools, or a server you configure yourself.
Andrea Reader does not operate any online service for your library, account, analytics, crash reporting, telemetry, or sync. There is no Andrea Reader account database, reading-history database, user profile, or developer-operated service that receives your library activity from the app.
If you delete the app, iOS removes the app's local container unless you have separately stored files through Apple services or your own backups. Andrea Reader cannot recover files or reading data that only existed on your device.
Andrea Reader does not make background requests to a developer-operated service for your library or reading data. Network access is only used for features that need a connection and that you choose to use.
Examples include connecting to an OPDS, WebDAV, SMB, or SFTP server that you decide to add; using iCloud document storage; opening Apple purchase flows; or downloading public-domain catalog items from supported public sources. In those cases, Andrea Reader acts as a local client so you can connect to the source you selected.
When you add a remote server, Andrea Reader stores the server configuration locally. Server passwords are stored in the iOS Keychain where supported by the app version. Credentials are used only to authenticate with the server you configured, and they leave your device only as needed to connect to that chosen server.
Andrea Reader does not include ads and does not use your reading activity for advertising, profiling, or behavioral tracking. We do not sell, rent, or share your reading data with data brokers or advertising networks.
The app does not include:
We do not collect personal information through the app. We do not know who you are, what you read, what files you import, how long you read, or how you organize your library. There is no Andrea Reader login, no device fingerprinting, no developer-operated analytics pipeline, and no Andrea-operated user profile.
Some optional features involve third parties that operate under their own rules: Apple handles App Store purchases and optional iCloud services; your own server provider handles the server you connect; public catalog providers handle requests made to their catalogs. Andrea Reader does not receive personal account data from those services.
The app may request access to local files, document providers, the camera, microphone, speech recognition, Face ID, photo selection, local network, or iCloud only when a feature needs that access and iOS asks for permission. File access is used to import, open, organize, scan, protect, read, or manage content you choose.
File names, metadata, covers, notes, and reading progress remain local unless you deliberately place files in iCloud, connect to a remote server, share/export content, or use another system feature that transfers data outside the app.
Andrea Reader may include access to public-domain or public catalog sources, such as library metadata or downloadable books. When you search or download from a public source, the request is made to that source so the feature can work. Andrea Reader does not use those requests to create an Andrea account or profile.
Andrea Reader is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple handles purchases, subscriptions, refunds, family sharing where available, optional crash reports, App Store metrics, iCloud, TestFlight, and other platform services. Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
If you visit andreareader.com, your browser connects to the website infrastructure needed to serve the page. The website may use hosting, security, or performance services such as Cloudflare. If you email support, we receive the email address and message content you choose to send so we can reply.
Andrea Reader is not designed to collect personal information from children. Because the app does not require an Andrea account or developer-operated tracking, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
If this privacy policy is updated, the revised version will be published on this page with an updated effective date. We will keep this page aligned with how Andrea Reader actually works.
